About this deal

It was so inspiring to see this little boy have so much faith even though he is so young. This one almost hurt more because the father wasn’t horrible, he just knew he was dying and wanted to leave his son in the best circumstances. If you want to know whether Michael manages to keep his faith despite everything, then do yourself a favour and grab a copy of this book!

Dear Cathy, I have read every single book and cried whilst reading them just like millions of others have. You and your family have been amazing people caring for all those children all those years. I’m now rereading your books for the second time and enjoying them just as much as I did the first time. Take care and all the best for the future. Harper Collins have bought world rights in Cruel To Be Kind, Cathy Glass’s account of fostering six year old Max. Hi Cathy. I’ve just finished reading Too Scared To Tell and am in tears as I write this. I’m so glad those horrible men were found and put away, I almost felt like I got close to Oskar whilst reading it. When I first started reading about his mum I didn’t agree with her not making time for her son but slowly understood why and I’m so happy he got to live with his family. I related to it so much with my son who nearly a year ago I placed with his aunty because I struggled to cope as a single mum and knew I had to what was best by him. Now he is thriving and so happy and I still see him and speak to him and am so proud of the young man he is becoming. Best wishes to you and your family.

Cathy the Mom

Reality can be far crueler and more inhumane than fiction. In her fostering memoirs, Cathy Glass recounts multiple experiences that show that to be true. However, while her books are harrowing and starkly realistic, there are threads of hope woven throughout. This book is beautifully written and one you won't be able to put down. I love all of Cathy's books and am always grateful for a happy ending but this one was so very bittersweet. I'm not ashamed to say that I sobbed throughout this book, especially towards the end. I’ve just heard that Unsafe remains in the UK Top Ten for a fifth week. Thank you for all your kind comments. They are greatly appreciated. Dear Cathy, I have been reading your fostering memoirs for quite a few years now. I just wanted to say how amazing you and your family are. I love your style of writing with all the minutiae of daily life included. What strikes me is how much you love each child that comes in to your care. I wish I’d been loved as much as you love your wards. God bless you Cathy.

I’ve just finished reading your book The Gathering and would like to congratulate you on a great story. I really couldn’t put it down. I’ve been reading it in the morning with my coffee before work. I must have talked about it a lot to my colleagues, as all week they’ve been asking what’s happened now? My views about what’s been happening have changed many times as I’ve got further into the book. It’s Saturday today so my whole morning has been coffee and finishing your book. It was brilliant. Congratulations again. Kind regards. I have read all of your books. I love them. I can never put them down. You are truly a remarkable woman. Lara and her one year old son Arthur are brought to experienced foster carer Cathy Glass by their social worker. Lara fled an abusive relationship and Arthur was suspected non-accidental injuries. Cathy must monitor Lara whenever she is with her son, day and night. She cannot let them out of her sight for a minute. When Dawn first comes to the family, Social Services informs Cathy that Dawn needs her space. They have been allowing a young girl to run around on the weekends until 21:30 at night. This is something I cannot fathom. But Dawn isn’t used to a routine – this is something she slowly learns while living with Cathy. Not Okay Cathy Glass is not only a remarkable writer, but also a remarkable human being. She has helped out so many people and her actions are admirable. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want them to, but that shouldn’t stop you from reading these stories. It’s truly an incredible insight into the world of fostering that not many people are familiar with. For a third week running Cathy Glass’s fostering memoir Neglected is at no 8 , it’s sixth week in the top ten. Hi Lisa (Cathy), I have seen your name on book titles for a long time but resisted reading while my children were little. I felt I would feel too emotional. Finally last week I bought my first ‘Damaged’. I am on the fourth book now. I love reading non-fiction but I have never been bought to tears by books before, yet your stories are so emotive, I am often left in tears. I really can’t wait to read the rest, what an amazing talent you have. And what an amazing thing you have done, becoming a foster mum, especially after your marriage break up. What an amazing life you have had, God Bless you for being there when needed and spreading so much Love and joy. Kindest regards and wishes. What i liked about this book with how engaging it is and how detailed it is and you get hooked and you have to read on and can't put it down i also like how she tells you about the children she has looked after their stories aren't the same and she has her hands full because she still has Tilly in care and she has her own children to care for and also her elderly mother too. This book made me feel sad and especially at the end, the ending was a weird feeling because at first i had a lump in my throat nearly crying happy tears and then the end i was sad crying. I have read so many of your books and although some have made me cry I always look forward to the next one. You are a lovely person and all the foster children you have had living with you have ended up loving you and are better for having had you in their lives. The funny thing is that often after reading one of your wonderful books I feel like making a pasta vegetable bake! I can’t wait for your next book!
