Self Catering in the Lake District
Built more than 150 years ago, Routen House has been extensively refurbished and redecorated over the past few years. Spacious and sleeping 12 (plus cot) it is ideal for large family gatherings or for parties of walkers and friends.
There are two sitting rooms, both of which have recently been refurnished with new settees. The main lounge has an LCD television, DVD player and Sky TV. The second lounge has patio doors which maximise on the superb uninterrupted views of the fells and countryside. The patio itself is the ideal place for barbecues or just to unwind with a drink after a hard day enjoying yourselves.
The garden outside is an ideal place for children to play in. Gated from the road the first part of the outside space offers plenty of private parking. From here the garden continues around the side of the house to a wonderfully sheltered patio area, with table an chairs, and then onto a large lawned area at the front of the house.
Pets are welcome.
There is a separate fenced paddock to the left of the house with a crystal clear stream running down one side on it’s way to the lake. The large field to the front of the house is also part of the property and occasionally occupied by grazing cows or sheep but it’s an ideal route to start your walk to the lake.
From the private parking area the main entrance to the house leads immediately into a utility room that is the perfect place to leave muddy boots after a long walk. The utility also has a washing machine, tumble drier, an extra fridge, freezer and access to a separate toilet.
Step through from the utility into the large farmhouse kitchen which is well equipped, with microwave, fridge, electric oven, gas hob and dishwasher.
Beyond the kitchen is the dining room, furnished with antiques and a long table suitable for gracious dining as well as a quick takeaway from the nearby town of Cockermouth.
